About Us
Engineering for Kids is looking for an energetic, enthusiastic Dungeons & Dragons expert to join our talented 2024 Summer Camp team! We are hiring a STEM Summer Camp Leader, with expert knowledge of DnD game mechanics, character creation, and experience as a Dungeon Master. The ideal candidate will be excited to share in this fun (and educational!) camp experience with children ages 8-12.
EFK has been delivering interactive, hands-on STEM classes and camps for ages 8-12 in Victoria since 2016. We strongly believe that children learn best when they're having fun and it's just as important for our instructors to have fun too!
This is a temporary, full-time position, with an opportunity to extend into the fall on a part-time basis. Camps take place July through August, with training set to start in June.
Our exciting 2024 summer programming includes technology and hands-on engineering camps at the Junior (ages 5-7.5) and Apprentice (ages 8-12) levels. Curriculums include: Minecraft, LEGO EV3 Robotics, Jr. LEGO Civil Engineering, Jr. Pirate Academy, Jr. Travel the World, Jr. Maker Space, Dungeons & Dragons, and The Art of Engineering! Learn more.
Position Overview
You will work in a team of 2 to deliver our Dungeons & Dragons curriculum, support campers, and contribute to a fun, safe, and inclusive camp environment. We encourage you to bring your own ideas, passions, and expertise to the job! The kids love it as well!
Training: Mandatory training will be held in June
Camp Dates: July 3 - August 30
Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8:30am - 4:30pm. You will have some scheduled weeks off.
Locations: Various recreation centres in Victoria, Sidney, and West Shore. We will do our best to assign you to 1-2 locations at the most.
Pay Range: $19.40 - $21.48 ($18.65- $20.65 plus 4% in lieu of vacation pay)

Primary Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day camp operations:
- Manage group behaviour and deal with incidents appropriately
- Communicate with EFK Admin and site contacts with camp updates
- Encourage, support, and engage with campers
- Provide appropriate support that considers the unique abilities of each camper
- Create and maintain a fun, safe, and inclusive environment
- Follow policies surrounding dress code, safety, and inclusivity
- Apply feedback from Camp Leaders and the EFK Admin team
- Demonstrate initiative by seeking additional Engineering For Kids training and further education
- Be professional, courteous, and approachable to students, parents, and staff
- Be a positive role model - the children look up to you!
Qualifications and Experience
Experience:
- Customer service (any preferred)
- Teaching (1-3 years preferred)
- Working with children ages 8-12 (1-3 years preferred)
- Dungeons & Dragons (1-3 years preferred)
Skills:
- Group management (experience with large groups is an asset)
- Behaviour management (experience with large groups is an asset)
- Enjoys working with children ages 8-12
- Can communicate effectively with a wide variety of audiences (campers, parents, etc.)
- Breaking down STEM concepts into basic explanations
- Thinking on your feet and finding solutions to everyday camp issues or challenges
- Engaging children through hands-on learning
- Receiving constructive feedback
- Able to be standing and walking for most of the day

- Between 15 and 30 years of age
- A Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada
Required Certifications (or willing to obtain)
- Current Emergency First-Aid and CPR C Certificate
- Clean Police Information Check (PIC) with vulnerable sector screening, obtained within the last 4 months
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
Compensation: $19.40 - $21.48 per hour
